Course: The race will begin at Ridge Ferry Park (located off of Riverside Parkway) near the concert pad and stage with a team building challenge/mystery event. From there, teams will head out in three different directions to complete the three stages of the event.
Stage 1: Chieftain's Cha Cha—Teams run the Ridge Ferry Park trail to Chieftains Museum and the historic Ridge Ferry on the Oostanaula River. Checkpoint will be located on the west bank of the Oostanaula and teams will cross the river to retrieve the checkpoint.
Stage 2: Ft. Norton Knee Knocker—Teams bike from Ridge Ferry along Burwell Creek and then up Blossom and Jackson hills, the site of Rome's Civil War defenses known as Ft. Norton. Checkpoints will be located atop Jackson and Blossom Hills and will utilize current and historic Rome waterworks sites atop these hills. Teams will return via a similar route along Burwell Creek to Ridge Ferry Park.
Stage 3: Myrtle Hill Madness—Teams bike from Ridge Ferry Park utilizing Riverside trail to Rome-Floyd County Library, where they will dismount, cross Riverside Drive on foot and retrieve a checkpoint at Oak Hill Cemetery (Lumpkin Hill). Return to the Library and continue to footbridge at The Forum, cross the Oostanaula on the footbridge, continue to Heritage Park, re-cross the Oostanaula on the Robert Redden footbridge, continue to South Broad, enter Myrtle Hill Cemetery, ascend Myrtle Hill, retrieve checkpoint, descend through cemetery, cross Branham Ave., continue up the Kingfisher Trail along the Etowah River, ford Silver Creek, meet the Silver Creek Trail and return to Heritage Park via East 1st Ave. and the Robert Redden footbridge. Distance: 4.0 miles
A. Up the Creek with a Paddle/Three River Ramble—Teams paddle from the boat ramp at Heritage Park to Silver Creek and up the mouth of Silver Creek where they disembark to ascend Mt. Aventine. After ascent of Mt. Aventine, teams return to their canoes and paddle back down the creek and the Etowah and up the Oostanaula to Bridgepoint Plaza where they disembark to ascend Shorter and Clocktower hills. Distance: 1.2 mile
Awards will be given to top three teams of 3 in each category: Male, Female and Coed
Canoe Rentals: $35 - includes PFD and paddles
Note: Bikes will be transported via truck to the concert pad at Ridge Ferry Park
